This fascinating new book provides a thoughtful overview on a complex and mysterious figure. Ann Wroe is a leading journalist who has worked for the BBC World Service and The Economist (albeit anonymously for the latter). She has also written well-recieved biographies of Shelley and Pontius Pilate. Her search for the real Orpheus takes in much recent research and her findings are illuminating. Wroe’s Orpheus through his links with music, art, literature and philosophy, indeed encapsulates much of the human experience.
