Alan Cameron’s new book, published by Oxford University Press, is an extensive re-examination of the end of paganism within the Roman state. Cameron aims to demolish the long-standing myth that a pagan elite survived well into the fifth century. Instead he argues that the revival of traditional Roman art, literature and mythology actually owed much to Christian influence. Alan Cameron is Professor Emeritus of Latin at Columbia University and this latest book has been highly acclaimed by scholars such as G.W. Bowerstock and Timothy Barnes.
