“Violence and Belief in Late Antiquity” by Thomas Sizgorich

Sizgorich compares and contrasts how violent expressions of belief became embedded in both Christian and Muslim communities in late antiquity. The author convincingly argues that the modern day distinction between Christianity as a ‘western’ tradition and Islam as an ‘eastern’ one are largely erroneous. Thomas Sizgorich is a reader in History at the University of California.
