“Thucydides: The Reinvention of History” by Donald Kagan

This new title from the eminent Yale historian makes a compelling argument for Thucydides’ place as the first recognisable historian. Donald Kagan believes that Thucydides’ methodical approach and careful use of documentation allowed history to develop as a academic discipline rather than just a literary genre. An often polarising figure, Kagan is also well known for his role in the Project For A New American Century, a group instrumental in the rise of neoconservatism.
