“Athens and Athenian Democracy”

Robin Osbourne’s controversial reappraisal of Athenian democracy is now available instore and online. Unlike traditional accounts which have tended to focus predominantly on the Council and the Assembly, “Athens and Athenian Democracy” aims to shed light on previously neglected sections of Athenian society. Osbourne examines the role of women and slaves as well as farmers and other agricultural labourers, reaching some surprising conclusions.
